How CEOs are addressing the U.S. presidential election

A recap of how top CEOs are responding to the election of Donald Trump.

NOVEMBER 8, 2024

Socrates Social is tracking how CEOs are weighing in on social media about the presidential election. A summary of notable posts and paired insights is provided below.

Since Donald Trump was elected the next president of the United States early Wednesday morning, a specific group of prominent CEOs has responded to the news.

A clear pattern has emerged, with CEOs of major technology companies issuing statements that are strikingly similar to one another. Outside of this group, leaders of the world’s most notable brands and companies have largely remained quiet on this highly polarized subject on social media.

Most of these statements by top tech CEOs are brief, congratulate President-elect Trump on his victory, and express that they look forward to working with the Trump administration.

It is notable how similar these messages are, the condensed timeline in which they were issued on Wednesday, and the typical choice of platform — X (formerly Twitter) — which makes sense given that the primary target audience is the president-elect himself.

Leaders who published statements include the CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Cisco, Dell, Google, HP, HPE, Intel, Microsoft, OpenAI, Salesforce, Tesla, and Uber.

CEOs on Threads

How CEOs are using Meta’s Threads to lead their companies from social media for CEO experts.

Threads is the fastest-growing social media platform, with 100 million users and counting. Many brands launched their Threads profiles at record speed, and some achieved significant visibility by leaning into the platform’s uniquely casual tone of voice.  This past week, some leaders, including CEOs of some of the most influential companies, have been using Threads to build their own platforms and ultimately deliver greater value for their companies.

We at Socrates Social are tracking how CEOs use Threads to drive conversations and connect with key stakeholders.

👀 Here's what CEOs are posting on Threads:

1. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has amassed 3 million followers. His strategy to engage in with other CEOs and influential leaders, often in funny or surprising ways, is aligned with his strategy: his significant presence solidifies his stewardship of the platform, attracts attention to the platform, and motivates other leaders to engage on the platform. Below are some notable exchanges, including interactions with entrepreneur Mark Cuban, and podcaster and neuroscientist Andrew Huberman.

2. Whitney Wolfe Herd, CEO and Founder of Bumble, connected Thread’s mission to that of Bumble, generating hundreds of user likes. She also asked folks via Threads which features they’d like to see on Bumble and who would let her crash a Bumble wedding — an excellent example of an executive using the app to learn from and connect with consumers.

3. Richard B. Handler, CEO of Jefferies Group, shared a reflective post highlighting what motivates him to continue working hard — the people he works with, from interns to clients. He has posted on a variety of topic matters, including on using Threads, the finance industry, and competition in technology.

4. Michael Dell, CEO of Dell, shared a post promoting Dell’s ability to “handle all your threads.” Dell also posted at Mark Zuckerberg asking how to search Threads, rooting for the Spurs, and applauding news from Dell Children’s. His variety of topic matter and tone is indicative of the experimental state of the platform.

5. Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, posted promoting Amazon Prime Day, and following shared his appreciation for those who made Prime Day a success.  shared his appreciation for those who made Prime Day a success.

6. Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, noted the unusual nature of the Threads platform, making reference to an engagement between CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, Executive Chairman and former CEO of Amazon.

How Executives Can Use Threads

We’re tracking how CEOs are leveraging the platform to drive impact on their businesses, and sharing those insights with you first. Here is how CEOs can start using Threads today.

Threads, Meta's (formerly Facebook) new social media platform featuring a live post-feed is rivaling Twitter. Threads is linked to Instagram and allows users to seamlessly launch profiles and begin engaging in Threads discussion. The platform is achieving explosive growth, counting more than 100 million users since launching last week.

* Executives can leverage Threads as a new platform of influence to build their brands, engage audiences, and drive business objectives.

We’re tracking how leading global executives are leveraging Threads to drive business impact and sharing unique insights with you.

5 Keys to Get Started:

  1. Launch your profile early to gain the first-mover advantage. Those who join Threads now will benefit from heightened visibility, as they compete with lower content volumes. These early-adopter executives will signal they are authentic, innovative leaders within their industries.

  2. Provide a clear value proposition. Followers should know why to follow your account quickly and easily from reviewing your bio and quickly scrolling through your previous posts. For example, an executive profile can be a source of inspiration, specific expertise, or business insights. Align on what value your profile provides to key audiences and execute consistently.

  3. Establish an authentic tone of voice. Threads posts are more casual, shorter, and reactive than other platforms. Adjust messaging to reflect your authentic tone of voice. Engaging with other users through comments and likes helps to develop a more personal presence, and grow your following.

  4. Share simple, compelling content. Posts, including your very first post, can maximize for engagement by pairing simple messaging with compelling subject matter. Compelling content can include addressing timely subjects, providing new insights, and sharing company announcements. Opt for shorter text, and vertical imagery.

  5. Leverage experts. Expectations are high for leading global executives, and managing authentic, influential profiles requires strategy and expertise. Develop a data-backed executive social media strategy anchored in business objectives, and implement robust content and monitoring processes in partnership with trusted experts to capture value and mitigate risks.
